I posted a short note on how to mix TV and movie widescreen aspect ratios. It's Windows, Vegas-centric with an option on avisynth/vdub. It's not exactly rocket science and I'm sure the techies are laughing because I've done it wrong somehow, but thought I'd drop the link in case it helps, like, anyone. :D

I'm trying to open an .mp4 file in VirtualDub using an .avs file according to these instructions. It opens, but it doesn't take any time to index and when I try to move around the timeline and make clips it gives me this error message: "FFVideoSource: Insanity detected: decoder returned an empty frame." Is this a problem with the file?

UPDATE!
This was easily fixed by not using MP3 as my audio source. In fact I just rendered my original AVI with the audio included, inputted my .avs into zarx gui (minus the kill audio line) and it was able to encode in such a way that was compatible with Quicktime. Easy fix for a headache of a problem.

It was recently brought to my attention, by a mac user, that my latest video would not play in quicktime. I went to the animemusivideos.org forums for help.

A few things:
- This is my first time using ut video codecs when rendering, and my first time using zarx264gui to compress.
- I vid in Sony Vegas 10.0
- My source material was comprised up of both mpg and avi files.
- I originally used the ut yuv422 uly2 codec to render the AVI [Did not choose this for any particular reason.]
- I could not get my site to embed the original vid (jwplayer) without distortion.
- Both Vimeo and Tumblr are able to convert the vid and have it play without distortion, youtube however, could not convert the vid without distortion.
- Based on suggestions from the forum, I later tried rendering in ut video yuv420 and huffyuv and compressing again with zarx (setting level to: unrestricted, 4.1 and 3.0) and none of these played.
- I am able to compress the video as an .avi in virtaldubmod and have it play in QT.
- Here is the file itself, in case that helps: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=F7RWS0LX

While Vdub works, I find the end result with zarx to be clearer and pretty gorgeous. I'd really like to figure out how to get this to work so that it's compatible with quicktime. I realize most people use other methods for viewing their vids, and this seems to work in all of them except quicktime.

There is more detail here where the thread is continuing: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=104872

I'm also going to crosspost this to see if the folks over at [livejournal.com profile] vidding_tech may know anything.

I am installing AMVApp 3.0 on my new computer and everything goes relatively smoothly until I get to the part with the video tests. At that point, all but one of the videos fails and the error is the following:

The procedure entry point RunDIIW (or RunDllW?) could not be located in the dynamic link library msdxm.ocx

I clicked "no" on the pop up that asked me if all of the tests worked and that error isn't listed on the help page of common errors that came up. Anybody got any ideas? (I'm running windows 7 64x and the only vidding software I had installed prior to attempting to install AMVapp was editing software like CS5 and Sony Vegas, no encoding/compression/ripping software.)

I'm posting this at the amv forum as well but thought someone here might be able to help.

I'm using VirtualDubMod to compress a vid for distribution as shown in [livejournal.com profile] astolat's tutorial. I've never had a problem before but suddenly no matter what file size (kbytes) I dictate during a "Twopass - 2nd pass" I always end up with an 11mb file. I've uninstalled/reinstalled Xvid and Googled the problem with no luck.

I'd be extremely grateful for any help, the vid needs to be posted Friday as it's for a Big Bang and the way I'm going I'll have no hair left to pull. Thanks!

I had my OS reinstalled and I need download links for the latest codec packs. I can't find them due to stupidity. Anyone have the links?

ETA: Now I'm trying to open VirtualDubMod and I'm getting an error message of "The procedure entry point oggpack_writealign could not be located in the dynamic link library ogg.dll."

I've just tried cutting some bits out of an episode with virtualdub, but it keeps kicking up an error message. I started using the mpeg compression, which I'm sure is what I used on my old laptop, but I tried it with the divx compression just to be sure, and it's the same thing. This is the message I get:

An out-of-bounds memory access (access violation) occurred in module 'VirtualDub'...
...reading address 00000000...
...while running thread "Processing" (thread.cpp:152).

Anyone have any clue what's wrong?

I've downloaded a 4gb mkv of an hd-dvd, and the quality is just so amazing. I want to use pull clips from it for a vid. Virtual dub can't seem to open the file. So, is there a tool like Virtual Dub that will? Thanks!
[identity profile] some-stars.livejournal.com
Just when I think I have VirtualDub figured out it goes and confuses me again. D: So the situation is thus:

.VOB files ripped from DVD; opened in vdubmod, compression=lagarith, filters=resize to 656x480

and what I get seems to have jerky motion, like it's missing frames. the source .VOBs, according to gspot, are 29.97 fps; the framerate of the clips from vdub that look jerky is also 29.97 fps. and none of this was a problem the last time I was using vdub to get clips off a DVD file. (those dvds were brand new, these are from about 5-6 years ago)

any ideas?

How I Vid

I made a little tutorial on how I vid, written from the perspective of someone who really hates vidding tech. I thought it might be of interest to people who are new to vidding. You can find the entry here.

Yes, I know. Audio attached to clips is the big major no-no. And, usually, I don't work with them - in fact, rarely do I ever. But. I'm working on a vid now and there's places in the song that would fit well with dialog.

Thing is, I'm using Premiere Pro 2.0, and grabbing my clips via VirtualDub. All the methods I've tried to get a clip with sound have led to massive fail. Mainly because Premiere Pro will only accept Uncompressed Avi or HuffyUV.

I've tried...

1) saving clip as huffyuv, saving audio seperate, combining both in PremPro. Unsynched.
2) saving clip as uncompressed, saving audio, seperate... save as 1).
3) keeping source clip/audio, saving as xvid. Xvid is jittery in PremPro.

So, a clip w/audio in Premiere. At all possible? Maybe some work-around? Thanks.

Thank you to anyone who can help me...

Hey everyone,

I tried to make shorter clips from an avi file with virtualdub, but everytime I do the audio is completely off. I'm talking several seconds... Does anyone know how I could do it? It doesn't necessarily be with virtualdub if there are easier methods, but I'd like to embed some small scenes with audio in my vid.

I looked in the memories, but I could only find tutorials, where the audio is turned off...

Thanks in advance.

For some reason I'm getting an odd error message when I try to open my vob files into VDubMod. It says: MPEG: Anachronistic or discontinuous timestamp found in audio stream 29 at byte position 35645458, from 300034127 to 30127727. This may indicate an improper join. There is a whole list of them and the numbers change per line.

I'm just baffled and I'm doing my best to figure this out. I've already uninstalled and reinstalled VdubMod. My next step is just to rerip (I use DVD Decryptor in IFO mode) but I'd like to find out why this happened because I'm afraid I'm going to do whatever I did again and it's going to keep doing this. The files worked for a long time, while I was trying to figure out deinterlacing, and other vobs work as well. But the entire set from one set the audio is just...not working. And the audio won't play in VudbMod only. PowerDVD and Vegas Video both play the audio fine. It's like for every step forward I get pushed another two steps back. Any help would be appreciated.

**

I just reripped the episode and this time the error message didn't come up but the audio still didn't play. Help?

ETA: Found some people with my exact same problem on a forum. They didn't get any answers of why either. The only suggestions were to move to other programs. *shrug*

So I recently moved to Premiere (my WMM died so I'm taking the big leap) and I have a question. I make a vid, export it, and it comes out HUGE. I mean 30 seconds is about 250MG. Most frustrating since you can't really upload that kind of thing online.

I know this must sound like an obvious one but I've looked around and (like many very simple Premiere issues) there's no answer I've been able to find. Is there a setting I'm missing? Does it take another program?

Also, I use VDub to cut my clips (since Premiere doesn't play with my torrent-ed .avi files) and they all come out HUGE as well. I mean I cut like 10 seconds from a scene and the file is, once again, 250MG. I don't mind it that much cos I got some space and it's taught me to watch twice cut once but I was wondering if perhaps that too is fixable. I usually mark the clip I want and do File->Save As AVI.

Thank you, any help mucly appriciated!!

i have been through the memories countless times and tried a load of different things...I have avi's i downloaded and i want to rip clips from them. However i can't open them in virtual dub or dvd2avi....they say file type not supported i tried a few suggestions from the meories and still nothing.

Any ideas?

*Edit* SOLVED: Thank you to everyone for your great suggestions. One solution i found was i used Total Video Converter I converted the entire AVI episode to MPEG and was able to open it and rip from it with Virtual Dub Mod...

Thank You Again

Trying to recoded things in VirtualDubMod for a vid and I keep getting this error:

VirtualDub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file and will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values during processing for better compatibility. This may introduce up to 6336 ms of skew from the video stream. If this is unacceptable, decompress the *entire* audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder. (bitrate: 118.1 + 18.8 kbps)

Which is all well and good, and googling it allowed me to find the fix, but I don't want to fix the audio. The problem is that the vast majority of times it happens, I completely lose the video as well. I can't re-encode. And these are eps that have no problems playing in WMP, not to mention VLC.

I have a feeling this is either going to be something really simple or really hard.

Anyone have any ideas before I go nuts?

Okay, I've never done a high-res vid before where I had to correct the aspect ratio. Now I'm doing that, and it's IRRITATING THE SHIT OUT OF ME.

This is going to be hard to explain:

WHINE WHINE WHINE WHAT THE HELL ARE THE RIGHT FILTERS FOR FIXING THIS PROBLEM??!?!? )
