I posted a short note on how to mix TV and movie widescreen aspect ratios. It's Windows, Vegas-centric with an option on avisynth/vdub. It's not exactly rocket science and I'm sure the techies are laughing because I've done it wrong somehow, but thought I'd drop the link in case it helps, like, anyone. :D

I'm trying to open an .mp4 file in VirtualDub using an .avs file according to these instructions. It opens, but it doesn't take any time to index and when I try to move around the timeline and make clips it gives me this error message: "FFVideoSource: Insanity detected: decoder returned an empty frame." Is this a problem with the file?

I did write two Avisynth tutorials in the past two months. The first was written for people starting out with Avisynth and the second is an updated version of my 2008 beginners post-processing tutorial. I don't think it requires more than a basic Avisynth understanding.

I am installing AMVApp 3.0 on my new computer and everything goes relatively smoothly until I get to the part with the video tests. At that point, all but one of the videos fails and the error is the following:

The procedure entry point RunDIIW (or RunDllW?) could not be located in the dynamic link library msdxm.ocx

I clicked "no" on the pop up that asked me if all of the tests worked and that error isn't listed on the help page of common errors that came up. Anybody got any ideas? (I'm running windows 7 64x and the only vidding software I had installed prior to attempting to install AMVapp was editing software like CS5 and Sony Vegas, no encoding/compression/ripping software.)

I'm posting this at the amv forum as well but thought someone here might be able to help.

Hello! I'm trying to adopt a new (read: proper) vidding method and have a question about frame rates. I posted to vidding_tech (along with a separate question about editing directly with avisynth files) but didn't get any bites -- any advice you may have would be fantastic.

The question is: At the moment I'm working with Stargate: Atlantis DVDs, which come up as 29.97 FPS and FILM. When I make the D2Vs, I choose FORCE FILM, which makes them 23.976 FPS and avoids any pesky interlacing. However, I'm told that Premiere Pro doesn't like 23.976 and that I should add a line to my AviSynth scripts saying AssumeFPS(23.98) and edit that way.

BUT! What do I do once I've exported the complete, edited vid? I was reading the Encode to MPEG for con distribution instructions because that's what VividCon requires, and there is no option for 23.98 FPS. Is there a simple line to add to the new AviSynth script for the AVI? Or does it require other steps? Meanwhile, does it matter for online distribution? And does any of this affect the separate audio file I'll have exported?

I've recently upgraded to Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 from Premiere 6.5, and everything was going swimmingly until I discovered that my AviSynth plugin does not seem to work with CS3.

I am at my wits end, and am now wondering if there *is* a plugin that supports CS3 (or if I'm too frazzled to see the problem), or if I should just go back to version 6.5.

Thoughts?

ETA: Solved!

AVS works on an Intel Mac, running Crossover (a Windows Emulator). Only in Premiere, so far. I don't plan to change the way I vid as a result, but it might be useful for some.

I wrote a simple step-by-step-tutorial over at my LJ for anybody interested in enhancing their final encode before publishing a vid with Avisynth. It should be accessible for vidders starting out with the program as well as the ones with some experience and hopefully prove itself useful.

The non-magic of Avisynth - Or how to add unnecessary stuff to your finished vid to make it more shiny.

I use Vegas Video version 6 and had hoped to just edit the vobs as is, as that is a viable option with this version. However, I'd like to explore options of deinterlacing before getting started. So I've been slogging through threads on several boards that are all several years old, hoping to find something and coming up against dead links and/or corrupted files. I'm hoping someone here can help. Read more... )

Or am I barking up the wrong tree and should just edit interlaced? What are some opinions on editing with interlaced footage as the A&E site seemed to frown on it?

For those of you suffering from memory-related problems when editing avisynth files in premiere, you may wish to read my post about it on my lj here.
