Vidding discussion

I've updated my vid site for usability, with user options for lower and higher video quality and auto-detected screen sizes. (The site used to stretch beyond many people's screens due to large video resolutions, and slower connections couldn't cope with the streaming). There is also basic support for iPad and iPod (embedded play capability, but no choice of quality).

Most of the vids on the site have been advertised here previously, with the exception of my most recent Harry Potter one, Happy Home (Snape/Narcissa), my remastered 2003 Buffy vid, Mary (Drusilla), and two Haven vids.

I have a new vid and a remastered vid today.

Ordinary Girl by Alison Moyet (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) is Charley Dixon's take on being drawn into the crazy world of Sarah Connor. I suppose it's technically a romance vid but it feels more like a character study of sorts to me. 30MB embedded flash or zipped 16MB MKV file for download.

Sorrento Moon by Tina Arena (Imagine Me And You) is a Rachel/Luce vid, significantly revised for better clip choices and better match to the song's movement. 44MB embedded flash and 24MB zipped MKV for download.

Just posting a few vids from the last year (plus a much older Terminator 3 one to round out the collection). The TSCC ones have already been x-posted to scc_vids.

All except the Terminator 3 one are decent sized - 720 wide or so - and they're all in the 25-45MB range. Generally the embedded flash option is better quality, but the downloadable version will suit people on slower connections or people who like to reformat and watch on mobile devices.

Year of the Cat - Al Stewart - whimsical Sarah/Derek piece, Derek POV.

Heavy In Your Arms - Florence and the Machine - Sarah reflects on Derek in the aftermath of his death. This one has angst slapped on with a trowel. Also has some quite good manipulations.

Nation - Big Pig - experimental ensemble piece. Not my best piece, in all honesty - I was trying out high-paced action techniques but it was only a first run. It was also my first effort after upgrading to Premiere CS5 so the encoding quality isn't all that great. But I'd recommend checking it out just because it's a damn good song.

This Is How A Heart Breaks - Rob Thomas - Action-based Derek Reese character study. A much more successful effort at the techniques trialled in Nation.

In The End - Linkin Park (approx 2006) - Video based around John Connor's journey in Terminator 3. I think this one is pretty good, considering it's a few years back, but due to older technology, it's small - 352 wide or so.
