Hi, all!

I'm looking for a safe, free, permanent hosting site for downloadable vid files. (My files average about 50 meg in size.)

I had been using FileFront, which was originally suggested to me by the Kawoosh forum for Stargate vidders. But that website has recently started using spyware to discover its users' Facebook accounts. I use my real name and main e-mail address on Facebook, but I used my vidding alias and gmail account to sign up for FileFront.

Anyhow, without asking my permission, FileFront used some sort of software to detect and track my activity on Facebook and put a link between my FileFront page and my Facebook profile. They also put my Facebook profile picture directly on the FileFront page, and if you run your cursor over it, it tells you my real name! Evil bastards!

I went through FileFront's instructions for how to remove the link. They said it may take "a few minutes" for the link to be removed from the FileFront page after disabling. However, that was several hours ago, and the link is still there.

Anyway, I just thought other vidders should know about this privacy violation at FileFront. It's no longer a safe place to host vids if vidders want to retain their anonymity!

So, any suggestions forsafe, free, permanent host sites where I can upload downloadable versions of my vids? In the meantime, I'm offering streamed versions only.

sighs. It was nice while it lasted the last 4 years. But considerung the economic climate, and with the rate, so many of my web2.0 sites are going down, this was not entirely unexpected.
While the site was always ugly, and lacked all the social component of streaming sites like youtube, I had for my SV com

sv_vids since 2005 a filefront site here to host all older fanvids that i was reccing, that were for one reason or another not available for downloading anymore, or were not uploaded to YT.
Always with permission of the vidder, of course.

So, just in case, some of you have been utilizing FF as well, now its time to make preparations to secure your vids (unless you still have all copies on your harddrive).

I admit, I am partially old school (I prefer vids always with a dl link) and partially web2.0, that means, YT alike streams. Nowadays, as far as I can tell, new vidders usually have a stream, and provide dl links from one-click hosters like mediafire, MU or sendspace. (some old school vidders often also have paid webspace, which is of course, even more stable, I assume).

What I would like to ask about though, can someone recommend some similar free hoster like FF, that is giving a more permanent hosting than those one-click hosters ?
I think, I have one or two places already in my mind, but I would love to hear your recs first, if you have. Thanks in advance!

Okay, I've just completed my first Spooks (MI-5) vid. I've vidded in a few other fandoms but I'm looking for a site that will accept fanvids (my usual archive sites are femslash ones, and this vid is not). My own webserver doesn't allow for file sizes larger than 10MB per file. The vid is 33MB.

As more and more folk are preferring to d/l vids rather than simply stream them such as on YouTube, which I've also done, if you know of an archive site that will host the vid, it would be appreciated.

Someone asked me about playing songs on TVs and I got to thinking that I've got far more room and bandwidth than I had previously, so thought I might experiment with the idea. What I'll put up later today will be an ISO of a single song - obviously this is very big - but it might be good for someone with a fast download speed and enough space to hold the video until they can burn it to a DVD and erase it from their hard drive.

Does anyone have any advice for me on this? And if it seems like something you might want to pick up, do you have any suggestions for which songs I should put up?

Due to the Kawoosh! video submission regulations and the existing policy to no longer accept videos hosted on temporary/streaming hosting sites, we thought it might be useful to offer a Kawoosh! approved list of free hosting services for both websites and video files.

From now on Kawoosh! will only accept video submissions from either links that appear on this list or from privately hosted/paid service hosted accounts.

From now on, any new video submitted must adhere to the new approved sites list. All existing videos currently listed on Kawoosh! are fine.

We would encourage all vidders who currently use streaming/temporary hosting sites to think about using the links provided as this will not only ensure that your video will be listed on Kawoosh! but will also enable your vids to be available to a wider audience for a much longer period of time. We will also shortly be adding a guide on how to set up various linked accounts for the hosting websites/webpages.

We would welcome suggestions of sites to add to this list so please feel free to add (by posting a comment) any suggestions you may have. Evidently, Lunarpages has increased their disk quota from 250gigs to 350gigs. Other than an amusing thought of increasing a 'pr0n' collection, I've got a *lot* of space to spare and I'd rather share it.

To sum it up: 5gigs starter space for vidders for free and you upload the files whenever you want and for however long you want them up. Email me (bunniqula AT gmail) this coming weekend in May and it's yours.

Domain is under 'archive.nu' (generic name and generally easy to remember), but if you have your own domain, I've got a few slots where a domain can be parked (domain stays under your control, you just change the 'pointer' DNS). While some adult content is allowed, please do not upload illegal software or video featuring underage pedophilia (the usual stuff most hosts cringe away from). If you've got 'adult video' with folk of legal age, should be fine. I've vidded in Oz and I've got naked men in some of my vids.

They're all there but one Christmas carol. Actually, they're always there through the Pros Circuit Archive, but not everyone seems to be subscribed to it. Any spreading of the word will be greatly appreciated. They'll be up for a little while, but I'm starting a Cadfael series of songs, so I'll eat into Pros as I need the room.

I got a request from Moon for the Starsky Hutch vids, so I've tried to cut down most everything else, including most of the new House and Boston Legal vids, and have stuffed every SH vid onto the site. I've still got a little room, so if anything else is wanted, let me know.

I've been getting original source materials up on the assassination of Lincoln, and my eyes are crossed from cleaning up old investigation letters. Which means I won't guarantee I haven't made lots of mistakes, so please let me know if I've screwed something up.

With various delays, moving a site that's over a gig was... interesting because I hadn't changed the hosting provider since 1996-1997. I moved archive.nu over today and the DNS is currently spreading across the internet. The DNS change should be complete within the next 24-48 hours and then the old server will be canceled. In other words, the move is done to me. Anyway, I'm supposedly allocated 250gigs space and 2,500gigs bandwidth. I'm probably tapping into 2gigs space and 20-35gigs bandwidth, so I've got plenty extra.

If folk need space for vids, I can allocate a starter size of 5gigs, which can be adjusted if you outgrow that size. Just drop me an email at 'bunniqula AT (gmail.com)' and I'll work on setting up accounts this weekend. Your link will resemble 'username.archive.nu' and also be accessible at 'archive.nu/username/'. Archive.nu has been a generic domain name for a decade and it can work for any fandom. If you have your own domain name, I can do an 'add-on' that should act as if your site and archive.nu are separate links, even though they're hogging space on the same account.

Also, the webhost TOS does allow for *some* adult content, not all. So, if you're like me and you got naked guys (HBO's Oz was a wonderful series for that {g}) in parts of your vids and porn fics, you're fine. Such things like warez, illegal full episode uploads, and image galleries of porn are not okay.

We've heard from some people that they can't download videos from our site, but Christine from Germany actually worked with us to find out what her problem was, and Paul was able to come up with a solution that works for her and, hopefully, will also work for some of the other people who have been having problems downloading at all.

Does anyone know the best way or place to get website hosting from for as cheap as possible? I know nothing about it but I'd like people to be able to download my videos as zip files rather than using SendSpace, YSI, etc. because the links keep expiring and I have too many videos to keep reuploading. Any help would be VERY MUCH appreciated, thanks.

I have been happy with the company that has been hosting my fannish website. However, as I need to store a large number of music vids, I need more space. The company charges $3/month for an extra 100MB - which means it is no longer cost effective to add more.

What I currently am getting: $40/month for 1.2GB and around 10BG bandwith.

I'd like to go up to 2GB for the same price (or cheaper). And be reliable (ie. if you go to their forums not filled with angry customers like a few lower cost ones I've seen).

The hosting company should also offer:

- not object to slash or vids

sunryse00 talked about starting a vidding archive. I think this is such a good idea. I know that when I first started to vid, I was so worried about where to host it, and certainly about advertising it. I'm not sure if an archive could immediatly solve these problems for people, but it could be a first step. In the hopes of actually organising this effort, I've set up a new community for anyone interested in participating in this, or just monitoring what's happening. I would really like to encourage everyone to visit it, it's called

As the subject hints, I'm in the need for a kind webmaster to host my new video, because my webhost apparently vanished and took both all my old videos with it and my glee at posting a new one (I've been lacking the ability to use a computer, at least one with internet access, for quite a while). I'd only need a host for about two to three weeks, if that.

Hi, I've checked back 3 or 4 pages and haven't seen this question asked so...

My friend and I vid in the QAF fandom. We currently have a site with 100GB monthly bandwidth (not enough) and we're paying $40 a month. To upgrade to 200GB (which still might not be enough) will cost us another $40-$50 a month.

Does anyone have any recs for a reliable host with no restrictions on contents who offer reasonably priced packages (at least cheaper than ours ;))) with 200-300 GB bandwidth a month?

Any ideas or advice you might have would really be appreciated. Thanks.
