It's the obligatory welcome post!

Recently I noticed that there was no LJ community dedicated to songvids in general. There are communities for anime music videos (
amv), Smallville (
sv_vids), and N Sync (
songvids). But what about those of us who don't vid those fandoms exclusively? There's no all-inclusive vidding discussion available on LJ.
I decided to remedy this. Voila, a community is born.
You don't have to be a vidder yourself; anyone who wants to be all geeky about vids is welcome. You don't have to have made vids to have opinions on them, either.
Anyone who is worried about being found out by TPTB, you can friends-lock your posts so that they will be visible only to community members. The community is currently open-membership; if anyone is very very worried about being found out, talk to me and I'll see about changing this to closed. I honestly have no idea what the level of paranoia around here is, so if a lot of you are worried I'm willing to do something about it.
Things to talk about:
You can talk about anything vid-related, any fandom, any vid subject -- slash, het, and gen are all okay by me. VCR and computer-based vidders are equally welcome.
Talk about the vids you've made or the vids you've seen, and what you liked and didn't like about them. Talk about what makes a good vid good. Ask how you can get started with vidding. Suggest a song that would make a good vid. Ask for opinions on the idea you've got, or on a not-quite finished vid that isn't working the way you'd hoped. Find a beta viewer. Ask for that one piece of source you just can't find anywhere. Gripe about Premiere/iMovie/Windows Movie Maker, or gripe about your VCRs. And so on.
Things not to talk about:
I tend not to like giant flamewars, myself. I suggest avoiding them. So if you don't like a vid, don't call the *vidder* a untalented pathetic waste or anything, okay? You can say what you didn't like about the vid itself, just don't do the personal attacks. Because then people get upset.
Okay, people, start talking!
