I feel like I could cry.
I've suddenly started getting the "an exception has occurred" error messages on my project and it keeps shutting down Vegas. I've "save as" and renamed the project but it is still happening.
I can't even work on the video for 10 minutes. If I lose this video, I'll be heartbroken as I've already put a lot of work into it and I'll never be able to duplicate it.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I had this with the latest version of vegas (9b I think). In fact every time I try to use an mpg clip I get the same message. It didnt happen with older versions of vegas. I gave up in the end and now use only avi clips but if I leave the sound on them I still have problems with those sometimes. I have to use no audio when clipping.

Hmm, looks like you have a case of corrupted files somewhere. First shut down Vegas and try deleting all your .sfk files. Just do a search on your hard drive for *.sfk and delete them all. They're temporary files, and Vegas should rebuild them when you open up your project. If that doesn't work, then you might have a corrupted video clip somewhere. If that's the case, then you may end up having to go through trial and error figuring out which clip(s) is causing the crashing by reclipping your clips one at a time.

I've heard of people getting the dreaded red screen but I'm not sure precisely what causes it or how to fix it. So I'm afraid I'm not much help in solving the issue at the moment. :(

I'm posting, though, to ask if you're able to render what you have. If you can, at least you can salvage the work you've already done. Render it at a nice size quality, then if worse comes to worse, you can start the project over again, import that rendered part and just have to just finish filling it in from there.

Also, can you start a new project with different source material? If you can and you don't get that error, then it's probably coming from something in your source material (most likely a codec in your clips or episodes or whatever you're using to put it together).

Good luck! ♥!

I used to have the same problem with Vegas 7. in fact, I still sometimes have it with SV Pro 8 as well. it helps reinstalling the program (well, at least it helps me, I'm no expert on this stuff). you can try doing that.

Almost the same thing happened to me just now!
I use Vegas Pro 8 and yesterday it was all ok but then I tried some other .avi in my project than deleted it and saved the changes. I noticed a lot of new sfk files appeared but payed no intention to it. Than today almost all media was offline!!! Every clip that was from media bins, other than the movie was offline.

What did I do:
-deleted all sfk files
-deleted that .avi I used and that was still in media bins
-renamed some clips from media bins (I don't know if that did the trick but I did not rename them all)
-closed Vegas, opened - and project was almost there except for one clip. When I renamed that file in media bin everything was ok :D
And save as...

I had this problem using a trial version.

I thought perhaps it was because the video I made was a very large file. After I tried saving it in a different format, I didn't have the problem again.
