I normally download things in .avi, but right now, I need to convert things from .mpg into .avi. What freeware is recommended, and if the settings need to be changed or set, what do they need to be at for the program you recommend?
I am using Windows vista (32 bit)

Date: 2009-01-31 10:17 am (UTC)this one I have used for 3 years, both for converting all kinds of formats (it even does rmvb, real media files, which not many other freeware converters have) into avi, so that I can burn the files to DVD, and play on my divx player and watch on tv:
its very easy, allows you a bit of finetuning, and has several profiles, you just choose as output avi, and it does all the work (plus, it has a big button for downloading and converting youtube vids from flv to avi as well)
