I have a question regarding importing into WMM... primarily what the hell do I need to do in order to be able to just import my poor .avi files into WMM. The memories section of the comm hasn't been helpful, even as I go through the tuts of Vdubmod and other such things.
First of all, this post is exactly the same problem I have right now and I have DivX installed and GSpot looking at avis and neither of those have helped.
I have no idea whether or not this is a codec problem, or a problem with the way I am ripping the dvds or using Vdubmod to make clips.. or I don't know. Here's what's going on. I:
1) Rip the DVD with DVDEncrypter
2) Open the file in VDubMod and create my clip there and save it as an avi
3) Try into import it into WMM and I get
4)
The avis play just fine in WMP and VLC. So I've downloaded GSpot in order to read the avi file to see what codecs might not encoded with the avi, and the program is saying that there aren't any missing codecs on the avi clips. I don't know what codecs are missing or if it's a ripping/compression problem. This is a screencap of the list of codecs installed on the computer:
Note: since making this printscreen I've actually downloaded the DivX codec and tried compressing the avi as such (DivX 6.8.6 Codec (2 Logical CPUs)) and it still doesn't work.
I, uh, am just about throwing up my hands at this point because I've gone through and tried saving the avi eighteen different ways in VDubmod and nothing seems to be making a difference - it's just the same error that pops up in WMM and it's pure agony not being able to just get clips into the damn program. I've tried ripping different show source (Queer as Folk and Heroes) and none of the saved avi files will import. Have tried ripped TV source avis and the avis won't import either.
How do I make the avis play nice and actually import? Am I missing something glaringly obvious? I've scoured the memories but maybe I missed something there that would help me out, but I am so frustrated right now. All I want to do is just get over this initial hump. Let me tell you how incredibly humbling it is to be going from Final Cut Express to trying and understand the ways of WMM and just getting things started there. *headdesks*

I had the same problem with WMM/Vegas (Vegas only imported the audio, WMM crashed), the CCCP fixed everything.
