I've looked through the memories and dug through various tutorials and I've managed to find things on how to erase just one colour or how to super-impose still images but can't seem to find any tutorials that I can follow for super-imposing. Basically, I just wanted part of one clip to show up in another, so it's super-imposed not a fade, but I don't seem to be getting anywhere by following the Premiere user guide I have and although I've been trying to figure this out for weeks now, it appears I'm still too dumb to do so. If anybody could just give me a dummy's guide to how to do this I'd really appreciate it because I don't seem to be getting anywhere. Thanks.

I don't know about Premiere, but this is called "Overlay" in Ulead Video Studio. Ulead lets you resize the overlay clip, but you don't get a lot of control over the shape or mask.

Are you meaning like a mask? I'm not sure if this will help exactly, but it might have something you can use .. http://www.alter-idem.com/index.php?now=5&id=11

If I understand what you want, you stack the clips one on top of the other in the timeline, then change the opacity of the one on top to something less than 100%. This might help:

Ahh, yeah, that would do it. Top clips always play over anything below.
