Hello. I've recently bought a laptop with Windows Vista. I've been trying to use the Windows Movie Maker, but I have been unable to get it to make clips of any media I import (it just uses one giant clip) and it only plays the sound and not the video.

The media works fine on windows media player so I don't think the files themselves are the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In a slightly related manner, although windows media player will play the files, the audio tracking is really sensitive and often gets off track. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks.

Sounds like you need to update your codecs.

I downloaded for my vista and everything works great.

I have Vista too and have been figuring stuff out as I go along.

Clips -- Select your big file, go to tools, then select create clips.

Sound -- I had the opposite problem, it would play sound and not the video. Check your codecs, sometimes media player has better ones/less conflicts than MM. Also try going to tools-options-advanced and deselecting anything that ends in ".ax". I don't know if doing either of those will have the same effect they had for me.

Hope these help!

Sorry -- you should deselect the .ax files under the "compatibility" tab.

maybe you could try the VLC Player?

or for using on USB sticks, or if you want to try it without installation:

What version WMP do you have? I am still on XP, and have 'rolledback' to WMP10 from WMP11 because of that problem. WMP would shove things as much as 30 seconds out of synch between the audio & visuals.
