Date: 2006-07-18 06:13 pm (UTC)I really love Jim Croce, more his romantic songs than the character stories. Hm, I seem to remember that you did a Star Trek vid to Photographs and Memories, and I love Dreamin' Again and New York's Not My Home. What a treasure he was/is.

Date: 2006-07-18 06:53 pm (UTC)I adore Jim Croce! I've done a lot of his songs, and I was listening to some others last night. I'm currently doing City of New Orleans for original Star Trek, Willie Nelson's version.
By the way, if you want to get on my advance email list for announcements, it has the advantage that I sometimes put up things for them alone. Like a bad copy of Tom Lehrer's Smut that I probably can't find all the video to remake. maidavids@iment.com
Jim Croce things we've done:
Bad, Bad Leroy Brown - Darth Vader
Carwash Blues - Vila in B7
Love You in a Song - Spock/McCoy
One Less Set of Footsteps - McCoy/Kirk
Photographs And Memories (archived) - McCoy/Spock
I'm trying to remember what the song was where I have McCoy suiciding for love of Spock. Blank.
I know New York's Not My Home, but I don't know Dreamin' Again, though I might if I look up the lyrics, which I'll do.
The ones I was listening to last night, but haven't done are:
Lover's Cross - which I WILL do for Buffy/Spike - it's marked high priority
Operator - maybe Buffy; insecure
Don't Mess Around with Jim
The other singer I've been listening to recently is Cat Stevens. Love his stuff!
It's really wierd to go back and forth between writing and music videos. I've always only done one straight out, then the other. Whole different way of thinking to shift back and forth. I think it might be because I'm working digital that I can even think that way. I keep a project of all the clips I've captured for a particular show, with names that start with the episode they come from, so it makes for easy thinking about a song. So I don't have to rely solely on visual memory anymore. And I capture more than I need when I'm around good stuff, and that helps, too. There are markers that show if I've used the clip, so I can try to get SOME variety in the songs.
If there's anything you particularly want, let me know. I put things up by request when I'm changing what's current in a fandom.

Date: 2006-07-18 08:38 pm (UTC)My favorite Cat Stevens songs are Sad Lisa, Into White, and Foreigner suite, but Oh Very Young is right up there, too. Both artists are such song craftsmen, totally different styles, but strong words and music and they hit you between the eyes with feeling.
I scanned through your list quickly. I've never heard Weird Al's "I Think I'm a Clone Now," but the title alone cracks me up! Eat It was a classic, of course, but one of my favorite Weird Al songs is King of Suede, the coat salesman image is sublime ("Is my size up there?").
It makes me happy just thinking about these songs. Will have to see if the tape player's working today so I can listen to them again.
I think that I'll watch Long Long Time (LotR version) again before I log off this compy. That's one of my favorites; it's such a wrenching song.
I would think that you'd have to have a good filing/index system for clips to avoid repeating yourself, although I'm sure that you might want to use the same song for different fandoms sometimes, and sometimes you have to use the same clips but in different context. I've DL'd quite a few LotR vids and have trouble keeping up with those; I can't imagine dealing with them on the scale that you do.
I'll send you an email to get on your list. Thanks for the invitation!
