Help! With Sonic Foundary Vegas 4.0

I am having trouble with Sonic Foundary Vegas 4.0, when I import the an avi, while it's building peaks, it crashes, says they was an error while opening the codec? Is there anything I can do to fix it? It's doing it with all my avis except my Serenity movie source.

Not a lot of people on the comm have a lot of Vegas experience unfortunately. I know because I'm one of the few who do and I've asked questions before. I was just about to ask a question myself. I'm thrilled to find another Vegas user! I've discovered that Vegas isn't that popular, so we are a small bunch.

Maybe we can chat it out? I don't know a lot about codecs. Though I do know that Vegas is "supposed" to work the best with avi and yet I'm always having problems with it. They say not to use mpeg, and yet that's what I use. I'm hella confused about the whole thing.

Here are some of the sites I've been looking up stuff. If you figure it out let me know because I've been banging my head about formats for weeks and was just about to reach the end of my rope. I even made a poll about it in my LJ last night.
