I have an iBook G4 right now, and I would like to use Final Cut Express HD (I am not sure if this is even possible; my computer might just not be powerful enough to run the program at all effectively). When I try and clip from big episode files right in FCE, my computer gets extremely slow and pretty much freezes up. I used to be on a PC, and used VirtualDub to clip .avis; I know that QuicktimePro can do this, but I don't want to pay for the upgrade or wait for it to be shipped to me, I'd prefer something for free that I can just download. So I guess what I'm asking for is an equivalent of VirtualDub for Macs *aside* from QuicktimePro.

Any help or advice is appreciated! Thanks.

This may be old news but, I used to have a lot of problems if I ran Virus Guard programs - particularly Norton Utilities on my Mac while trying to run video editing software. There is some sort of an extension conflict involved

I'm not sure if that information is still current, but it was a big headache 5 or 6 years ago.
