Introduction and cheap video advertising

Hi, I'm Mina-Clare. I'm the "Harry Potter" video maker. I was introduced to this community via Bonibaru.

I'm a multi-genre video maker. I'm not content working with just one fandom. A good majority of my videos are online. I work in iMovie. I've done 27 videos, with severals in the works right now.

I enjoyed the "Under Your Spell" video. Finally got home to watch it! I wasn't sure if it would work for me. I mean, that's a Buffy song and it's being used for Harry Potter. Not only that, but it's a lesbian sex song, all that breaking and swelling and spreading .. er .. ahem. We'll all pretend we don't know what Tara was *really* singing about and what Willow was doing to make her ... levitate ... Anyway, I vidded a Smallville snip to "Where Do We Go From Here" from OMWF, and it worked OK for some people and not others simply because they couldn't separate the Buffy fandom from the song.

I think you did a pretty good job with this one. My slashy little heart squealed when you had the Draco/Harry wizard's duel footage during the lesbian oral sex part of the song :) Harry breaks with every swell! He's head over heels! Hehehehe. I haven't wanted to make any Draco/Harry slash vids because, well, it's like kiddie porn to me. Just not right! They're only little kids, after all. So I feel guilty about squeeing over that scene, but I did anyway :)

Under Your Spell

Thanks. I really liked "Under Your Spell". It was an interesting experiment. I decided to use only clips from the CoS trailers.

I also went for the "Ambigious shipping". I mean it's definately Harry/someone. But there is potentially stuff in there for many ships, the most prevailant being Harry/Draco or Harry/Riddle. But there are bits for other couples. I have one friend who think it's a lovely Harry/Hermione pairing and another who swears to Harry/Riddle.

Also, anyone who's not a Buffy fan will have no idea about the meaning of the song. When I showed my brothers and informed them afterwards of the song meaning, they just thought it made it really funny.

But I can understand why some people might not understand the video. I'm not too worried. I liked it, and besides-- It was just a laugh. It wasn't one of my more serious videos.

Welcome! At last, Harry Potter video! I have a half-complete HP video on my hard drive that needs some serious tweaking, but I hadn't seen any others.

I had my doubts about the song, but you pulled it off exceptionally well. One thing that fascinated me was the different ways you could take it. The "you" could be Harry's magic, or even Voldemort himself, with the weird connection they have and Voldemort being the unwitting source of Harry's enhanced powers. It was one of those videos that alluded to a lot of deeper things but left the final interpretation to the viewer. I like. I like a lot.

Wow, I really like the Highlander vid. The song just seems to me to be a very very good fit for Methos, and you've managed to find some Methos clips that I haven't seen in vids, and by now I've probably seen thirty of 'em. This was really really really good. I'm impressed. Plus, Great Big Sea, woooo! I'm going to go rec this to everyone I know. I love it.

I also liked the X-Men one to "Revolution." I might have missed it, but I was kind of hoping to see a shot of Magneto's machine in action on "we all wanna change the world," because that was the point of the machine. He wanted to change the world, make everyone mutant like him. Still a good vid. I liked the strobe-y things to the beat.

Wow, someone actually commented on my "Highlander" vid! It's always been one of my favourite videos, but I haven't heard any comments from HL fans, even thought I sent the link to some of the groups I'm on. I made that video for my mum. She is a big Methos fan (as am I) and she suggested the song. For months before I started making videos, she kept on saying that it was the perfect Methos song. When I started to make videos.... I knew I had to do it! I want to upload a higher quality version to my website soon. It was one of the first videos I uploaded, and it was when I was still on a dial-up.

I've been thinking of fixing up "Revolution" a bit. There are a few shots in there that I wanted to fix up. I'll definately keep your suggestion in mind should I actually go ahead with the changes.

I hope you do upload a better-quality version of "Buying Time." I know I'd download it. I recced it in my LJ and to a few of my friends. I really really really liked the song. So very Methos.

I'm hoping to vid Methos stuff to They Might Be Giants' "Reprehensible" (slightly inaccurate lyrics here (http://www.tmbg.org/band-info/songs/lyrics/Reprehensible.html)) someday. If I ever get source. That would be much much fun. But I have no source.

Maybe you can wait to redo "Revolution" until the next X-Men movie comes out. More source there. (Incidentally, Peter Wingfield's in it.)

"Buying Time"

I will definately upload a better quality version. I think the one I have up now is like the size of a postage stamp. I can do MUCH better than that. I've been experimenting with how good the quality can be in comparison to the size. I never put much thought into it before, but now that I'm putting my movies on the web I'm going to have to.

"Reprehensible" will definately work as a Methos video. I would like to do more "Highlander" videos myself. Unfortunately, I can't right now. The footage I got was captured off my VHS tapes (which is why there's there's quality issues for certain clips). I used my brother's school's digital camera to transfer the VHS to digital. But my brother's not allowed to borrow the camera anymore. So... No more clips from VHS, unless I shell out for my own camera or video capture equipment.

That's a thought. I *could* wait until after the new movie. Then I can put in footage of Nightcrawler! And yes, I was aware of Peter Wingfield's role in the movie. I saw a shot of him with two of the other villains. Oh, just let him have a scene with Hugh Jackman... Then everything will be perfect (of course, I bet Wolverine would be killing Wingfield's nameless henchman....)

Wow! Under Your Spell is quite cool. I like The Seeker, but found the chorus clips a bit too repetitive. With only the one quidditch match to choose shots from, though, that's understandable.

I really like Buying Time, The Hell Of It, and Nowhere Man, as well. It's not often I find a single vidder who works in more than one fandom I'm familiar with, and it was neat to see these.

"Under Your Spell" and "The Seeker"

I'm glad you like "Under Your Spell". To tell the truth, I'm surprised I'm getting so many positive comments on it. That video was conceived and edited in one afternoon. After the second CoS trailer came out, boredom got me to start cutting clips. I used "Under Your Spell" because not only did it fit, but it was nice and short. Usually 'on-the-fly' videos don't come together that well, so the positive feedback is really neat.

I have noticed usually vidders stick to one or two fandoms. I like moving between fandoms. It keeps my ideas fresh. I think if I were to stick to one, I'd probably just vid the same idea over and over again (I mean, my two HP vids were both about Harry, all of my Kenshin videos are Kenshin/Kaoru pairing). Also, I think the fandoms I'm into go together rather well. I've met a lot of Buffy fans who are into Highlander and anime (and Ranma is one of the pinacles of anime).
