Beginner to fanvids

Hey folks,

I'm interested in learning to make fanvids and I'm looking for a program for editing. I studied editing in uni for a semseter or two using Final Cut Pro, which I got very used to. When I left uni a tutor gave me a trial of Adobe Premiere, which I liked because it was pretty similar to Final Cut, but the trial expired and I can't afford to buy a legit copy of it. I have Windows Live Movie Maker but I lost it with the interface pretty quickly. Is there anything similar to Final Cut/Premiere that won't cost me a bajillion dollars?

You could try Final Cut Express. Probably cheaper than Pro and it does a pretty decent job for fanvidding. I think the cost has come down recently too.

I'm not sure how similar the interface is with other programs you mentioned, but I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum, which is a lot more affordable than Vegas Pro, and there's a free 30 day trial on the Sony site. I used to vid in Premiere, then moved to Vegas and found it very intuitive.

I second that recommendation. I've vidded on both Mac and PC and found that while there are a couple of differences that take a bit of getting used to, Sony Vegas does work in a very similar fashion to Adobe Premiere. In fact, though I am primarily a Mac user, I bought a Windows laptop exclusively to vid on because I loved Vegas so much I couldn't bear to part with it. For what it costs, it's very feature-heavy.

If Vegas doesn't work for you, I believe Adobe have recently released Premiere Elements for Mac and PC which is in a similar price range to Vegas, but I have yet to test out how flexible it is in terms of effects and file formats that will work with it.

I'm really happy with the trial so far, it handles most of the basics almost exactly like premiere. Thanks a lot for your help guys!
