Well, I'm a vidder who's only recently joined the community. I was burned pretty badly on a couple of vidding mailing lists and haven't cared much for hanging out with other vidders since, but this seems like a pretty easygoing community, so...here I am. I do take my vidding reasonably seriously, but I'm really not interested in the same-old, same-old "digital vidding versus VCR-to-VCR" type flamewars. I vid mostly in X Files, although I've just finished one for an Australian mini-series and I'm working on ones for Harry Potter and Cider House Rules. I also like to watch Buffy and Once A Thief vids. I like both interpretive and intuitive work, but I tend to work on the literal-interpretive side myself.
My video site is at http://video.deslea.com - of the ones there, my favourites of my own work are Gravity Of Love, Standing In The Way, Pray, and Did We Not Choose Each Other. Those are all X Files. The first two are Krycek/Marita, the third is a Marita POV on the mytharc, and the fourth is Doggett/Reyes. The other one I really like is one I've just finished, for the mini-series Brides Of Christ, themed on Catherine leaving the convent. That's 5MB, Winzip 8 or equivalent to open, RealPlayer 8 or higher to play, and it's available here.

Ooh, there are OaT vids? Where? Give, give! (I've just started watching OaT in US syndication, and I'm really liking it.)

Date: 2002-10-22 01:08 am (UTC)I definitely agree about OAT's every-which-way UST. I think John Woo was on the right track there - he kind of avoided the trap XF fell into with the MSR. I like Mac/Vic and Director/Vic. Not a fan of LiAnn with any of them. I quite like LiAnn on her own, but the everyone-loves-LiAnn thing bugged me.
I'm not a huge fan of Krycek slash, and it takes an exceptional writer or vidder for me to buy it. However, the handful of M/K slash I like, I really, really like. My two favourite Krycek/Mulder videos are Sadeness by Meredith and You Give Love A Bad Name by Linzee. Sadeness is available here (http://www.aquafire7.com/meredithmusicvideos3.html) and Linzee's is here (http://linzeestyle.com/videos/three.html). (On the fic side, Shock The Monkey by Kassandra).
I do a lot in Krycek het. My two pairings are Krycek/Marita and Krycek/Diana (it's not as unlikely as it sounds, but I'll spare you the dissertation this time). Krycek/Marita has a huge following - it's probably third behind MSR and DRR for the het pairings. I run the main Krycek/Marita site, Blondie's Ratcave (http://ratcave.deslea.com), but there are several others.
Krycek/Diana doesn't have a specific following - I'm one of only about five authors who have written it, and the only one who's written it sympathetically - but there are a number of Krycek/Diana friendshippers at the Harem (http://harem.deslea.com). Really, Krycek/Diana (whether friendship, UST or romance) tends to be written as a kind of byproduct of Krycek/Marita and Mulder/Diana - that they're both lonely and hurting in Season 6 and turn to one another, having crossed paths as a result of their Tunisian connection.
And yes, as you can see from my icon, I do Mulder/Diana too. Just call me the patron of unloved pairings. *g* Although, that has a small following too...

I quite like LiAnn on her own, but the everyone-loves-LiAnn thing bugged me.
Hmm. I can see how that might be annoying, but I'm not seeing as an everyone-loves-Li Ann thing. I'm seeing it as an everyone-loves-everyone-else thing, and just that the people who love Li Ann happen to be more vocal about it. (Well, it makes me happy to think of it like that, anyway.)
I kind of jumped right into the Krycek slash. I'm a very very new XF fan -- I never watched it when it was on, because I wanted to watch it in the right order if I was going to watch it at all, since I figured I'd get into it if I watched it. I watched some of S1 last year, and then watched up through S4 this summer, with the occasional S5 ep. Haven't seen much at all of the later seasons. And I really liked Krycek. (And then I thought, "Hey, I could vid Mulder/Krycek to this song!" So I did. Hmm, I ought to formally post that to this community, in case anyone else wants it.)
All my friends who were getting me to watch XF, explaining plots and stuff like that -- they were *all* slashers, mostly M/K slashers though one does M/Sk too, and most of them used to be MSR fans. So the slash was what they were all up on, and so that was what I saw in the show, and that was what they recced me. I really like the M/K, in all its dysfunctionality. (Plus I think NL's cute and I have a thing for Russian.)
I haven't been into a fandom for het for a few years now, and I kind of (*sheepish grin*) get to start thinking of het fans as The Enemy, y'know? I know it isn't true, but it starts to happen anyway. So I'd kind of like to see what's out there in XF, see if I like it. I'll probably be checking out your vids and fic soon. Not this week, though, 'cause it's midterms...

Date: 2002-10-27 06:31 pm (UTC)I know what you mean about the het-as-the-enemy thing. There are certainly some unpleasant het fans out there, especially in MSR and to a lesser extent DRR. Not so much in Krycek/Marita - there are a lot of Krycek/Marita fans who are also Krycek slashers. I think to be a Krycek/Marita fan you sort of have to accommodate the idea of a dysfunctional relationship to start with - the idea that you can love someone and still have a fucked-up relationship. Because of course Krycek/Marita have their own ups and downs as well.
I have a love-hate relationship with slash, myself. I'm bisexual, very active in queer communities, and to be honest to me it feels like a lot of slash appropriates my reality and twists it into something it isn't. I do read some slash and watch some slash, but I'm very picky, and pretty easily annoyed by slash that seems voyeuristic at my (or my community's) expense. Mind you, my former flatmate is gay and he doesn't have any of these idealogical hangups about it - he loves it. So, you know, different strokes and all that.
Anyway, enjoy the vids! And Yvi's email addy is on the site, so do drop her a line if you enjoy them.
Cheers! Deslea

Date: 2002-10-27 06:25 pm (UTC)Pray, along with Devil With The Green Eyes and Gravity Of Love, is one of my all-time favourites of my own work. I loved making it.
