Question on Editors and Adobe Premiere 6. Need Help!

Hi Everyone,
I'm a new vidder and have only started with a couple of good slideshows, but I'm moving up to real vidding. I already know how to rip my DVD's no problem and have lots of clips, but I have a question on editors. I love Windows Movie Maker2, but it's too much for my computer right now, so I have to force myself to use Adobe Premiere 6 - I really don't like this program and can only manage to string clips together, but not much else and I can't even seem to perform a simple fade in, blend, transition, effect, nada. I need tuts how to use this editor, but I can't find an easy one any where, they are either all for the Pro version or I need another university course to understand it. I can't even think of any other easy editors to use. My computer is 600 megahertz Win XP. Just not enough power. MM2 is fine with still photos, but it burps and farts when I try to use clips, it's so slooooooow. Very hard to preview with music and get it on key! I've even tried to turn off other applications, but it doesn't help. So it looks like I'm stuck with Adobe - no offense to adobe lovers, I envy you guys who are proficient with the program!! I've been in tears all week. I know it's a powerful program, but even with tinkering with it, doesn't seem to help me much. Appreciate any help, suggestions! Thanks so much!

If you can afford it, get the Classroom in a book (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0201710188/qid=1118773177/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/002-3131367-4830429?v=glance&s=books&n=507846). Once you get the hang of it, you'll never even think of trying something like MM2 again.

By the way, you should really try to keep all your clips on a separate drive from your system and other files - that really helps with the skipping problems. Your system is right on the edge of being too slow, and every little bit will help. If you can't afford another drive, at least do a defrag each time before you work on a vid.

Thank you for the advice. My clips are actually on a whole seperate computer, but am looking into getting another hard drive installed and am going give it a defrag as well. A new computer is already on my xmas list this year.
