Boo. I need help. :(

My problem sort of goes like this...

Me: *clicks on clip*
Premiere: *freezes*
Me: Bah. *starts up Premiere and clicks on clip again*
Premiere: *freezes*
Me: What the hell?! *starts up Premiere and clicks on clip again*
Premiere: *doesn't freeze*
Me: Awesome! *chooses the razor option and attempts to edit*
Premiere: *freezes*
Me: *headdesk*

This happens after (at most) 20 seconds of editing. Every. Time. The clips are mpeg files. Probably around 100mb each. But they play fine in Premiere at first. They don't slow down the program at all. Before it freezes on me they seem like they will be easy to edit. I just don't understaaand.

And it's just with these clips. I can spend hours working with another clip and it is fine.

It's very frustrating as I have this vid completely outlined and finished in MY HEAD. This whole middleman problem needs to go. Who votes for a program that takes vids from your head and instantly makes them? Eh? Eh?!

Er, ANYway =P... I really wish I could offer some advice but sadly I'm just a WMM2 user who, actually, has freezing problems of her own that the only solution I've been able to come up with for it is saving my project after like EVERY edit :(. I certainly hope someone's able to help you out!

Have you tried creating a new project, importing the clips into that and seeing if the same problem occurs? Because I've had this kind of thing happen to me before, but it turned out to be the project, not the clips, that was corrupted. I had to export what I had on the timeline so far as a non-compressed movie, then create a new project, then import that avi into it along with all the source clips so that I could edit around it. It was annoying, but the only solution I found.

It might be the size of your clips too. I usually make some low quality clips and then switch them for the bigger, prettier versions later when I'm ready to export.

Do you have clips with identical encoding (same codec, compression, etc.) that work just fine? If so, I'd side with something like [livejournal.com profile] river_boat suggested. If not, it may be the encoding that Premiere doesn't like. It's known to just not play well with certain codecs, and those codecs are actually known to vary somewhat between users computers. :P

If the problem seems tied to the clips, I'd suggest getting VirtualDubMod and exporting the clips to a different codec.

Hehe, yeah, it really is that cool. :D I was thrilled when I got pointed to it too.
