The
vidding community has a very robust memories section - but it is hard to keep current. We'd like to enlist the cooperation of members to start tagging entries going forward - for now we'll limit tags to two areas:
1) Technical questions by vidding software program (Adobe Premiere, Sony Vegas, Final Cut etc) and
2) The top TV shows and movies (ex. Buffy, Heroes, Supernatural, Harry Potter).
For people who are posting vids set to one off movies or TV shows, we'll have a generic tag to help us track the these vids ('"movies" and "tv" ). We will still be collecting these vids into separate memories categories. As soon as we collect enough tags under the category (3 or more), we'll create a new tag for the movie or TV show. The reason we do not create tags for every TV show or movie? Take a look at the number of movies and TV shows we already have here. There are limits on the numbers of tags a community can have - luckily we have more room to grow in the memories section, so we'll be doing a gradual phase in of tags until we have a better handle on our future tagging needs.
The start date for the new tagging system: June 1, 2008. The list of available tags is here
So to wrap up:
1. Tag your technical posts according to your software program
2. Use available tags to track your vids for TV shows or movies
3. If you're posting a vid that does not have an existing tag, use either the tv or movie tag so we can continue tracking your vid in the memories section until we get enough entries to warrant its own tag. Vids that do not have the tv or movie tag may not be included in the monthly sweep to memories.
4. All other vids and posts that have available tags will no longer be collected in the memories section - so please tag your vids and posts so your viewers can find them
5. Anyone can tag a post using the available tags - either the poster or a community member. So please pitch in and help out if you see a post that has not been tagged.
6. Official tagging Start date: June 1, 2008
We'll give the new tagging system a one month test and then re-visit and tweak if needed. We'll also be sending reminder messages a few times more during this transition period.
