Hey, I'm very much the new kid on the block as far as vidding goes, and just recently finished my first vid. Understandably, this is far from perfect, as first vids usually are, but I have my own thoughts on how I could have improved it and I'm very open to constructive criticism. Feedback can only make me better, so feel free to add your comments.

In honour of Luminosity's (aka [livejournal.com profile] sockkpuppett's) fantastic interview in New York Magazine, I've decided to extend the deadline of the Moving Words and Pictures Challenge for another week.

Lum has offered her vids as inspiration for this challenge, along with many other awesome vidders (here's the list).

So this is your big chance to write the fic to go with your favourite songvid!

New deadline: Thursday 22 November.

Title: Stupid
Fandom: Jak and Daxter (videogame series for the PS2)
Song: "Stupid" by Sarah McLachlan
Link: Here.
About: My third (well, second, technically) fanvid made with Windows Movie Maker, and defnitely my best in my opinion. Most of the vid is fandom-specific but I believe there are some very strong moods and themes in there that are universal and people might enjoy it even if they don't know the fandom.

A summary of the video: The video is mostly from Keira's point of view. It's partly about her arriving in Haven City, finding herself in a new and dangerous place, and missing her home and her old life dearly. It's also partly about her blind love for Errol during this time. Mostly, though, it's about her relationship with Jak, and how it changed after reuniting with him in Haven. Eventually Keira comes to the realization that Jak is not the little boy she knew in Sandover Village anymore... And yet she still holds on to the memory of what once was.

It's not perfect, but I think that I conveyed what I really wanted to say in this video and overall I'm satisfied with it.

As part of a more general discussion: Obviouslly I'm still new at this and I'm constantly learning, so any critiques or advice that more experienced vidders would like to offer would be highly appreciated.

I have another vid in the works but I'm having trouble figuring out how to end it. The last eight measures have no music and I'm not sure exactly what to put there as I've already said everything I want to say. Any advice? General tips, tricks, brainstorming methods?

Also, if anyone could recommend a free vidding program other than Windows Movie Maker that's a little more sophisticated but still good for an amateur I'd be grateful. Right now making fanvids with WMM feels a little like performing brain surgery with a hacksaw.

I'm been working on a fanvid. This is my third one, and my longest at almost six minutes. Every time I try to save the movie file, the estimated time gives me huggeee numbers (think 9999 and up) then freezes and gives me the "Windows Movie Maker has encountered a problem and must close" message. I tried splitting it up, but even the smaller bits kick out when I try to save them as movies. I'm on version 2.1 I do believe, and have some 80GB free on my hard drive, so space isn't the issue. Help?
