Codecs Conundrums with Vegas

I've tried to figure this out on my own but I am well and truly stuck. I'm hoping someone here can help.

I'm trying to get videos I recorded with my digital camera to play in Vegas. I get audio but no video.

I can go round and round the net downloading more and more codecs but I don't know what I'm looking for anymore as I supposedly have what I need.

Any advice would be appreciated. I'm completely baffled. Thanks.
