I apologize for being yet another newbie with issues, but hopefully this is at least a slightly novel problem:
I'm attempting to make my very first vid and, perhaps unsurprisingly, have run into trouble with WMM. I've read through the WMM-related memories of this comm, and a few other resources, but none seem to address the problem I'm having.
I ripped clips from my S1 Veronica Mars DVDs using DVD Shrink. Changed the file extensions from .vob to .mpg. Attempted to import them to WMM, which, in whatever version I have, does list .mpg as a supported file type (despite what
the first tutorial I ended up at suggested). Initially, I was getting some codec-related error message and it refused to import the clips, but after some fiddling that stopped happening. "Fiddling" included re-downloading the 3ivx codec and checking the one unchecked box under Tools --> Options --> Compatibility, which happened to be the InterVideo Audio Decoder. Now it doesn't give me an error message when importing the clips, but once they're supposedly imported, the preview plays only the audio and no video.
My completely uneducated guess is that it's still some kind of codec issue, but since I actually
stopped getting a codec error message, mostly I'm just confused. A very slightly educated guess is that this would go more smoothly if I just spent the extra time to figure out how to convert the files to .avi and do that (since it looks like that's what many people do), but having invested effort in this approach already, I'd like to know if there's a way to make it work. (Don't know if this matters, but I can play the clips just fine in Windows Media Player) Any help would be MUCH appreciated.
