Checked the tags, but didn't find this issue, so I'll go ahead and ask...

I'm brand-new to vidding and am trying to get started with the help of the AMV App, which includes DVD Decrypter for ripping DVDs. Trouble is, DVD Decrypter isn't working for me. (I've only got one DVD to try, though, so it might be a localized issue.) The furthest it's ever gotten was 9%, and that was after me ignoring a certain error as it repeatedly came up; usually, however, it just stays on 0% forever, and the error message that I keep getting cites an I/O problem of some kind. (The DVD Decrypter log says "Failed to read sector [number here] - Illegal Mode For This Track." I've got a screenshot of the error message if that would help.)

Has anyone else ever had issues with DVD Decrypter like this? And is there another readily available ripping program I can use in the meantime? (I want VOBs, ideally.) Thanks in advance!! :)

I had recently similar problems (with errors or just stopping at 0 %.)DVD Shrink (another ripping program) reacted the same, it appeared to be problem with copy protection. I installed AnyDVD and it helped.
Sometimes problems can be caused by damaged discs.

I think it's the copy protection; I had that problem with a dvd once, too, and NOTHING would let me rip it. :(

I also had that problem once with a DVD and what I did was google the name of the DVD and the words "problem ripping" or something like that and found other people who not only had the same problem but also found a solution.

It turned out that in my case it was copy protection that was causing problems and using DVDFabHDDrecrypter (sorry, I don't have a link at the moment but that's apparently what the file name of the program says) instead, I was able to rip the DVD.

So you can try DVDFabHDDrecrypter and see if that works or try google and you might find an answer in a forum off LJ.

RipIt4Me (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/RipIt4Me) usually works for me when all else fails.

I've used just about every ripping and converting method under the sun. Let me tell you, every one fails or just stops working eventually.

However, I've just found a new method that has been working fabulously for me. You can find a complete tutorial and links to the freeware here (http://community.livejournal.com/vidding/1708005.html).

I hope this works for you. It's been a life saver for me.
