More on Youtube's take-down proliferation from the EFF

"This is what it's come to. Teenagers singing "Winter Wonderland" being censored off YouTube.....

It's clear from the Warner Music experience that YouTube's Content ID tool fails to separate the infringements from the arguable fair uses. And while YouTube offers users the option to dispute a removal (if it's an automated Content ID removal) or send a formal DMCA counter-notice (if it's an official DMCA takedown), many YouTube users, lacking legal help, are afraid to wave a red flag in front of Warner Music's lawyers. That's a toxic combination for amateur video creators on YouTube.

So what can we do?"

While not strictly about vidding, I thought it might be of interest. Sesame Street's How Crayons Are Made segment [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMU-wXsgyR8] has been allowed by Sesame Workshop to be put back up on youtube.

Okay, this is really just ridiculous.

Anyone have an egg timer so we can clock YT's time on the net?

My vids were screwed with, a couple deleted, one censored in countries that were not disclosed to me, so I bailed. To hell with the $cum. Looking around for other sites now.

It is astounding to me that YouTube does not realise to what extent they are cutting their own throats with this kind of censorship. They have already lost many long-time members that are very talented video makers due to the fear of (or reality of) having their vids removed from the site and now they are setting themselves up to lose the remaining users they have.

My son has a YT account and he's started uploading the home movies he and his friends make-westerns, spy movies, film noir detective flicks. He's 14 and is really enjoying the process of film making and editing and there are a lot of other kids out there like him, creating art, but how discouraged will those kids get if their vids are randomly removed for the most frivilous reasons?

Eventually YT will have no users and they will only have themselves to blame for it.
