I posted last night about how all the clips had disappeared from both the bin and the timeline in my Premiere 6.0 video project.
After messing around and trying a bunch of different things, finally, I took one of my clips and opened it using GSpot to see what codec it was using. GSpot said the clip needed LAGS (Lagarith) but that my computer didn't have this codec and couldn't play the video file. (Which was weird, since I used to have Lagarith and hadn't deleted it.)
So, I downloaded Lagarith and installed it. I opened my vid project in Premiere...and my clips were back! Hoorah! They were in the bin and on the timeline where they belonged! Unfortunately, though, the problem isn't completely resolved.
The clips show up/play correctly in the source (left side) window. They also show up correctly when I double-click a clip on my timeline to bring up the individual clip "popup window." But they do not show up--it's just black video with an X in the left corner--in the right side (monitor?) window, where Premiere previews your video.
Here's some specifics about my project:
Editing mode: Quick Time
24 fps
Compressor: Motion JPEG-A
I've tried changing the codec from Motion JPEG-A to Cinepak (which has worked on my computer before) but the same thing happens--just a black picture with an X in the corner. I've tried restarting my computer and also have tried opening one of the Premiere's saved copies of the project, but neither of those things helped. I'm guessing this is a codec problem (if Lagarith disappeared on me, maybe others did as well?), but if this is the case, I don't know how to fix it. I've looked in the
vidding memories and can't find an answer there.
For the record, I can't do a system restore because the version of Windows I have (2000 pro) doesn't have that feature.
Oh! Also? Though my vid was rendered (entirely greenish blue on the top) before all this started, now, all of my clips are showing up as red/unrendered.
Any advice on how to fix this would be appreciated. :)
