Perhaps a clearer head than mine (which wouldn't be hard at the moment) can figure this out.

I had to reinstall Premiere 6.0. Added a bunch of new codecs after the install. Some new. Some not. Premiere is seeing only some of them. VDub sees all of them, and Premiere's ancient sister, 4.2, sees all of them.

There is one video codec missing in Premiere 6.0: Microsoft MPEG4 V3, but the glaring ommissions are the audio codecs. Nothing but the defaults. I added in DivX Audio, and an MPEG3 codec.

VDub sees them. Premiere 4.2 sees them. Is there any reason why Premiere 6.0 can't see them?

Yeah, Premeire 6 doesnt use the windows ACM (audio codec manager) for audio compression, which means that you don't get the same list that you see in virtualdub.

The best thing to do is to export the audio seperately as wav and then import it into virtualdub, with your avi and encode the audio there.

I also recommend you exprort the video losslessly from premiere (using either uncompressed rgb, huffyuv or your default hardware codec) and compress for web distribution in virtualdub if you can because premiere's distribution codec handling is weak at best. Divx encodes done in premiere are always sub-standard.

In short - dont trust premiere with encoding things, simply export in as high a quality as you can and then compress everything down in virtualdub :)
