If you're not originally working with "uncompressed avis" the quality will not be very good, but you can convert them to dvd using Adobe Encore DVD (also burns to dvd) or Nero to burn to dvd. There's tons of software out there that can do it. DVDrhelp.com may be a good start for a beginner.
