Sony Vegas Newbie Needs Help

I always used Magix Video deluxe for Vidding, BUT aparrently Magix is not happy with my Supernatural DVD's.
So I tried several Videoprograms and found out that Sony Vegas is totally happy with my files.

But this Program is so different, so I'm looking for help. Someone out there who would spend some time explaining a few things to me?
Or maybe there is a 100% save Tutorial?

And here are some Questions:
- I want to convert my vids to wmv or mpeg, what is a good setup to reach a good quality?
- Can I cut a scene from a large file (whole episodes) into the project directly, or do I HAVE to create Sub clips? (Maybe I used Magix for a too long time, but I found that really annoying to create those sub clips)
- Which Vegas version should I use? Movie Studio, Movie Studio Platinum, Movie Studio Platinum Production Suite or Vegas Pro? (Using the trial of Vegas Pro at the Moment)

V/N: I've wanted to vid Sucker Punch ever since I first saw it, intending to do something rockin' and fast to make use of all of those cool visuals! This definitely isn't that vid. O_O But I stumbled across this song again the other day and it struck me as being very much fitting for Blue. I didn't want to romanticize him or trivialize the horrible things he did, so I hope that I managed to explore his character a bit without ever excusing or condoning his actions.

Also, I had a lot of fun with the beat use. [/shallow] ;)
