Sony Vegas: Constant Restarts and Resizing

Hello!

I had two questions (feel free to remove, mods, if not appropriate):

1.) For those who resize their video to fill the whole screen, do you use pan/crop and just manually do it or are there certain things you do special (ie turning certain selections off, like maintaining aspect ratio)? I've tried resizing it but it cuts off parts and there are some things I want to keep. Looks nice, though. Is there a special code that automatically resizes to fit the screen?

2.) Recently when I start Vegas and I put clips together, when I go to play them Vegas just stops working and I have to restart EVERY time. All the clips are hosted on the computer and not an external hard drive. Do you know what might be causing the problem? It just started doing it about a week ago. It was fine before.

3.) Off topic: Does anyone have any experience with their Western Digital external hard drive saying "USB not recognized" when you plug it in? If so, how did you fix it? If not, how did you get the data off there? All my clips for vidding are on there.
