Ning is the social networking platform that BAM runs on. There are also several other vidding sites like Buffytube (and it's other Whedon sister show sites), Bones tube, Show your vids and one I created myself called Vidders.net.  These are the largest/active networks I am aware of.

Ning is phasing out free sites so for those free sites it will be Pay to Stay or Free to leave. The announcement made yesterday was more of internal communications made to employees they made transparent. An official announcement will be made in about 2 weeks to Network Creators and the new changes will take place within 90 days. How this effects networks may depend on their new premium changes and how the network mitigates any possible cost whether through support of the community or other efforts. The platform is not perfect but even people who don't like some aspects of it find it hard to find any alternatives. Ning has now forced their hand and Gambling on the promise of better features and support for paying networks. Full Disclosure: I used to admin at BAM before I created my own network on Ning and have in time become very knowledgeable about the platform and company from participating on their company discussion forums for admins of Networks.

Fandom: Quantum Leap/Voyagers
Title: Quantum Voyager
Song: Quantum Leap theme
Category: Tv opening mashup
Characters/Pairings: Phineas and Jeffrey
Summary: I had been wanting to put this one together for a while. To of my favorite time travel shows (after Doctor Who of course). But also this is the one that best fits the theme of Quantum Leap. Both shows had people traveling through history righting things that had gone wrong.

Sounds like the same show to me...

For the Vividcon vidding convention in August, [livejournal.com profile] deepad and I are putting together a combined vidshow/panel called "Race and Representation in Vidding".

The blurb is as follows:

Visual markers of racial, ethnic and cultural identity are inscribed on the bodies vidders use to tell their stories. What are the political and social implications of the choices that vidders make? What narratives of resistance and subversion can be told, and what stereotypes and oppressions get perpetuated? How do the racial and cultural dynamics within fandom affect vidding and its creators? How can we analyse vids through anti-racist, anti-orientalist, post-colonial, and subaltern studies lenses?

From a vidder's technical standpoint, what are the editorial and creative issues you need to take into consideration when vidding characters of color? What implication does music and song choice have? Is there a different approach when you're vidding a character not of your own cultural/ethnic background, and what guidelines or mental reminders have proven useful to you?

We have some ideas of vids that we'd like to show, but we are also looking for suggestions. Do you know of any vids that fit this theme? Also, are there any points that you want to make sure that we touch upon in the panel? All ideas welcome.
