Vimeo: Please Be Aware Of Your Surroundings At All Times

Just a heads up to people using Vimeo to stream their fan vids: Vimeo has begun deleting vids and vidder accounts for violating their usage guidelines. So far they're focusing on vids that are not password protected - even leaving one vid unprotected can result in your account and all your other private vids being deleted.

We've blogged about Vimeo's suitability for fan vids here and here and here. Please take a moment to read.

PS. Vimeo offers an upgrade pay option that allows you to control where your password protected vids are embedded. More here ans here A

PPS. A few users have tackled the issue obliquely: if I make a mashup and keep it private, is that a usage violation?
Direct questions (Hey what about Fair Use and Transformative Work?) have been met with silence.

PPPS. Note that Vimeo encourages their members to flag vids that do not fit into their business model. So try not to wander into the support forums and ask questions about your private fan vids....you might find yourself deleted.
