vvcminion.livejournal.comHowdy ho, Llamarinos! It's that time again: the annual VVC Vid Auction fundraiser rears its furry head!
As you know, Bob, VividCon is expensive to put on, having small membership and high tech costs, so fundraising that will keep membership fees under control is important -- especially when it's fun in its own right!
Here's the plan: a vidder offers to make a vid to order, with whatever conditions the vidder feels are appropriate -- e.g., listing what fandoms they'll work in, how the song will be chosen (both parties should be happy with the song, but beyond that, either one can be responsible for coming up with suggestions), any styles of music the vidder prefers/prefers not to work with, how much input the bidder gets to have into clip choices, etc. -- and then we hold an online auction, with the proceeds to go to the con.
We hope this will not only be a fun way to raise money for the con, but also provide an avenue for some folks who may not vid themselves to get to participate in the making of a vid, or to hijack a willing vidder into their own fandom for a bit. The auction will be open to non-members, so those who can't come to the con themselves can still participate this way (either as contributing vidders or as bidders). We'll be selecting 5-6 vidders from the offers we receive; if we're flooded with volunteers, priority will be given to attending members.
Auction vids are due by FRIDAY, JUNE 27th, as are all premiering vid submissions (Premieres, non-attending Premieres, and Challenge vids) except for Club Vivid vids (CV vids are due by May 1st).
The auction itself will open on MONDAY, MARCH 31st, and run for one week, ending at 11:59pm US Eastern time on MONDAY, APRIL 7th. This will give the vidder almost three months to complete the vid. If for any reason a vid doesn't get done, we will of course refund the money to the bidder in full, and then it's up to the vidder whether they eventually finish the vid or not.
If you're a vidder who would be willing to participate, and you're confident you could make a vid to order in this time frame, would you please drop an email (not an LJ comment) to dorinda at thechicagoloop dot net by next THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 28th? Please include some details about your conditions, like available fandoms, music choice, things you're flexible about, things you won't do, needs & preferences, etc., as well as a link to your LJ, if you have one, and your vids online if any. And if you're interested, but aren't sure you're up for it, please don't feel bad about not offering: there's always next year. *g*
The winning bidders will each get one DVD copy of all the auction vids, as well as a credit in the vid titles (vidder's technology permitting) and in the program book, along with our gratitude for contributing to the con. We'll be showing the auction vids at the con, most likely after the challenge vids are shown.
So please do send me a note--who wants to hop into the gift-box of tasty chocolate-covered Vidder Assortments?
