Software Inquiry

I'm hoping that someone can help me...

I am looking for a program and that makes really high quality DVD conversions.  I really don't have a preference for AVI or MPG so long as I can use it in Adobe After Effects.

All of the programs I have come across make a less than stellar conversion (with skips and interlacing issues, as well as the audio being out of sync with the video), and literally take 16 hours to rip a single 42 minute episode that ends up being 4 - 6 GB in size.  ^^;;  Either that, or the quality sucks, the picture is small, and I am forced to stab my eyes with dull pencils.

I'm hoping some vidder out there knows of a great program that'll let me have my quality without the insanity.  So what do other people use?
