This Vid was a long time in the making...I honestly believe they wrote the song about this movie, bcuz its either Amy's voice or a sample from the movie at the end of the song that says the same exact line that's at the end of the movie...

People die, but real love is forever...

The lyrics seem like they were written specifically for this movie. This was bound to get made...Im just surprised no one else did this one b4 me...at least I never seen this combonation b4. So Im proud to be the first that I know of to do this vid...I hope u enjoy...I spent alot of time storyboarding this one.

I'm Immortal (dudes! Stop flailing! It says I'M Immortal, not MY Immortal) is new at my site. It's still password-protected; just use the email link on that front page and I will send you one post-haste; if you already have it, it hasn't changed. As always, I really recommend the VLC media player (there's a link at my site).

This is my first time working from .avi files taken off the Intarwebs, and I think the visual quality in compression has really suffered for it in a way I couldn't see initially. When I use the same codec and compression settings as I always (successfully) do for a web file, it's becoming highly pixelated in spots that aren't pixelated in the files. ETA: I've added a much larger file size version that seems to smooth out a lot of the worst pixelization, so you can choose either file size.

But! If you view the window at half size, it looks dandy. I'll keep futzing with it and see what I can come up with unless it gets to a really unreasonable size (you can also get a free DVD from me, where it looks fine, if you follow those links at the site).

There could be worse things than living in 1973. You could be dead in 2006.

This isn't going to be useful for many people but it could be very important for anyone compiling vids for conventions. Like me and [livejournal.com profile] sockkpuppett are.

DV is supposed to be this big industry standard thing, and it is. DV is DV and while there is type I and type II it's all the same really. However, DV decoders are not alike and while the DV file might be file the decoder could quite easily screw it up.

Decoding Quicktime DV on a windows machine is an extreme example of this. It seems that the windows version of Quicktime has a grudge against Mac-Quicktime-encoded DV.

Click here to see what happens when you try decoding a DV Mov using Quicktime on a windows machine. (needs flash)

It's really hideous isn't it? By simply renaming the .mov to .avi the Microsoft DirectShow DV decoder kicks in and decodes the data correctly. Exactly why Apple have such a shoddy DV decoder on Windows is a mystery but I'm tempted to think that it's an attempt to cripple windows mov editing, making Macs look superior... not that either OS is intrinsically superior they are just different. However, there should be no difference in decoding DV on a Mac or on Windows. It's an industry standard format.

Of course, it could just be shoddy programming. There isn't a great incentive to make the windows version of Quicktime as good as the Mac version, just like there's no reason for Microsoft to make IE on a Mac be any good. Either way, avoid the windows QT DV decoder like the plague, folks. I can't speak for its decoding of other quicktime content as I've not really looked into it.
