For years now I've been using
this tutorial to rip my DVDs into usable MPEG clips, and it's worked alright. Recently, however, I found
this guide to make DivX .avi clips. Now, I followed this tutorial pretty strictly with the exception of choosing to de-interlace my footage. However, they don't work so well when I import them into my video editing program. The slightest little thing, like, oh say, playing the clips, makes my whole system lock up, and when they do play, the playback is choppy. I want to use the DivX avi; they're smaller in size than the MPEGs, generally better in quality, and they're not re-sized at all. Now, I can only seem to think of two reasons why I seem to be having so much trouble with them, perhaps you guys can help me out here:
1) It's Adobe's fault. I have both Adobe Premier 6.5 and Adobe Premier Elements and they both have the same problem. Is it just a general problem for Adobe users? Is there another similar editing program that doesn't protest to using these kinds of clips? Or maybe I need to configure Adobe some other way?
2) It's my computers. I have a pretty nice Dell that's two years old and I just bought a Gateway laptop in February. Do I need more processing power? Should I just wait and see what happens when I finally save up enough for that Dell XPS I've had my eye on?
Any light you guru's could shed here would be most appreciated.
