Hi everyone,

I re-encoded my older movie videos in highquality divx format. The new versions are:

Queen of the Damned: Forsaken, Before I'm Dead, and Slept so Long

Interview with the Vampire: Whisper

Underworld: Wings of Steel

Hannibal/Silence of the Lambs: Haunted, I Love You I'll Kill You, and Complicated

Enjoy and don't forget you can disable the divx logo by going to the DivX directory under your Program Files and then click the configuration utility - quality settings - Disable Logo.

(And yes, I've read the www.animemusicvideos.org tutorials, I just don't entirely *understand* them. It seems to me the author's assuming I know certain things that I don't know, but perhaps s/he actually explained them and I'm just too stupid to get them, I don't know.) Anyway... I've read the entire guide up to and including the section about setting up a project in Premiere a couple of times in vain, and now I've decided I need an explanation I can actually understand. The simpler the better.

There are only three things I know about my source files: the resolution is 720 x 404, the frame rate is 25 fps, and the audio's 44000Hz.

So... how do I set up my project? And do I need to know anything else before I do? And if I do, how do I find out? For example, how do I find out if my source is interlaced?

No, wait, let's do this systematically. I'll go through the set-up dialogue step by step, and ask about each bit I don't quite understand.

1.) What does 'editing mode' mean? The options given are 'DV Playback' and 'Video for Windows' - what do they mean? I assume 'my' option is 'Video for Windows'... but I'd really like to know for sure.

2.) 'Pixel Aspect Ratio' - my source is not DVD footage but a - relatively high quality - downloaded avi of a TV program. I get the feeling that all the explanations in the tutorial only apply to DVD footage (or maybe not - as I said, I don't really understand them very well). So, I have no idea at all what setting I should choose here.

3.) 'Fields' - Yes? No? How do I find out? This is another instance where the explanations only seem to apply to DVD footage.

4.) Under 'Video Rendering': Which compressor should I choose? Options given are: 3ivx, Cinepak, DivX, Huffyuv, Indeo, Intel IYUV, Microsoft RLE, and Microsoft Video 1.

I'm told that people here may be able to help with this kind of thing.

I'm trying to burn a file to a DVD-R so that I can play it on the DVD player attached to my television. I created the file, which was imported from a camcorder, using Windows Movie Maker. Our DVD drive is an Iomega SuperDVD. We have software called Sonic MyDVD which burns actual DVDs.

So far I have one -- ONE -- DVD burned that will play in the TV. The rest? I get error messages at the end of the burn, and/or when I stick the disk in the TV. Same original file. DVD-R. Oh, and they don't play on the computer, either. The one DVD-RW I tried will play on the computer, but that's all.

What else? We're running Windows XP, and the file is in .dvd format. The content is about an hour and sixteen minutes. For some reason, the Properties only gives me the length, not the size. Oh, and it takes about an hour and a half to burn even a bad disk.

So. What am I doing wrong, and how do I fix it?
