Trying to make a R/Hr fanflick

Hey..i've been reffered to here. I have some questions...

Well, im trying to make a fan video and had a few questions.Anyways, i want to know if--

1. anyone knows how to get video clips from DVD's (without using a camcorder) into Windows Movie Maker (cause, i cant seem to figure out if its even possible to do it without a video camera!)

2.If there are any good free programs you recomend for making a movie.
