Two music video's for the price of one. My roommate and I started out attempting to do one music vid and ended up doing two. The song is the same, and many of the clips are the same or similiar, and yet I think we ended up with different feelings in both. They are both up at the Sentinel 10th Anniversary Site.

I've debated posting about this in the past, but what the heck, here goes. I've seen many, many top-notch vidders make a simple mistake when encoding their files for online viewing as divx .avis or other full-size files. The error is easy to make, and totally understandable, but it's still a mistake. "Full screen" vids encoded for online viewing should be encoded at 640x480, not 720x480.

720x480 is the correct size for display on your television, and for exporting in preparation for burning a DVD (or exporting to tape, if anyone still does that). Our TVs have rectangular pixels, while a computer monitor has square pixels. That's why it's different. But if you export to an .avi for online viewing at 720x480, your picture is squished out of proportion. I know it's hard to tell, because it isn't squished by a lot. But it is squished.

Likewise, if you are exporting a letterbox (16:9) file for online viewing, it should be exported at 640x360.

Okay, I'm shutting up now.

hi i am Vince i am new here i just got done reading through all the memories and i didn't find exactly what i was looking for so maybe someone here might be able to steer me in the right direction. Okay first of all i am New to vidding and have a basic idea of how to do it and i do mean basic. I currently use DVD shrink to upload videos and DVD2AVI to convert though i am not having much luck with that program so i downloaded Virtualdub. Hoping that just maybe...*crosses fingers* Also i use Windows Movie Maker cause i don't need the high priced stuff YET....Okay on to the questions don't we love this?
1. Is there somewhere i can go to get a step by step tutorial from start to finish on vidding? i don't mind reading tutorials and teaching myself but i havn't been able to find any.
2. Everytime i try to import the avi files into WMM it saus file corrupt...Any ideas what that could be? I tried like 15 times and gave up.
3. Is there any other software that might be of use to me while doing this? I am not in need as i said of exspensive stuff cause i am just doing it for me doesn't have to be fancy so free software would be ideal.
4. I also have Nero installed on my computer. Can that be used like WMM? if so i think i would rather use that.

Thank you to anyone who might have some suggestions.
Vince!

The bad mofo is finished!

This is a result of twenty four consecutive hours of painful editing, a week of downloading at least twenty programs made to work through trial and error (and thirty bucks for MPEG-2 Playback Component for Quicktime), and a year of wishing I could make fan videos like those cool chicks on the internet.

This is the first fanvideo I've ever made, I'd really appreciate some feedback. Meaningful or pretentious? Artfully chaotic or reminiscient of an epilectic fit? I'd really like to know. Honest. Please don't be nice. Unless, of course, you love it. Then I'm entirely open to all manner of praise.

Title: Want To
Fandom: Band of Brothers
Song: "Talkshow Host" by Radiohead
Rating: I'd say PG to PG 13, simply for the nature of the song and the implications of the video. But it's not that rough. I was able to show it to my parents and get away with it. Couple swear words at most.
Programs: Ripped with MacTheRipper, converted with MPEG Streamclip, and edited with Final Cut Express (and when Final Cut Express stopped working, with Final Cut Pro 4)
Pairings/characters: David Webster and Joseph Liebgott.

It can be downloaded off yousendit.com as MP4, AVI, or MOV. I'm working on converting it to WMV, but for now I only have mac-friendly formats.

Lastly, I wanted to thank this community and all it's wonderful members for existing. If it wasn't for you guys, I'd still be wondering why I couldn't just put the DVD files straight into Final Cut Pro. Merci beaucoup.
