I'm back again with another question since you guys were so helpful. I last posted about occasional video lag while previewing my vid in WMM. It was only a few clips, so I put up with it and made successful finished vids.

Now I'm working on my newest vid with more video sources than last time (I'm vidding from multiple episodes instead of one, so I have more imported this time). All are Xvid files. The problems I'm now having with WMM are making it impossible to do anything. I can barely get the video I'm making to play in the preview. The first frame plays and then almost every frame after gets laggy or freezes completely. I've had the program almost crash on me several times. The whole program freezes and hangs for a few minutes, then runs again. Also, the response time in the program goes a little nutty and I'm not able to stop the audio from playing or stop the time line until it decides to calm down.

The preview window playback is problematic too. Some clips will play fine, others are laggy or hang. The audio playback I have running with the video plays perfectly, however. This leads me to believe this is solely a video issue.

All my imported files are Xvids and I've read that it could be the problem. Do any of you use Xvid files in WMM with problems, or do you convert them to a standard .avi file?

I really want to vid again, but this is making it impossible since every single clip lags or freezes in both the time line and the preview window. I'd be greatful (again) for any help. Thanks.

ETA: I have saved it as a movie file and it plays perfectly, but because I can't even get through a few seconds without lag or freezing, I can't do any editing. Very frustrating.

So, I went ahead and encoded a vid of mine so that it would be .m2v and the visual file ended up moving a lot faster than the original does (it's about half a minute shorter). Is this normal and to be expected or did I do something wrong?

I captured from a Starsky & Hutch season 4 dvd, which is from Germany (PAL), made a vid, output in mpeg and had lots of stutters and baaad footage when I converted to DVD. I was using Ulead Media so I switched my field dominance to B (which I'm told, by the way, that Ulead has it backwards - that A is B, and B is A, but anyway), assuming this was the problem, and put out another MPEG file. It seems to have solved all my problems except for two places where I slowed the captured footage down. There the songvid still shows stuttering and essentially ruins it when I convert to dvd. Anyone have any idea how I can overcome this?
Thanks
Kassidy

I am in desperate need of the last clip from M*A*S*H - where Hawkeye takes off and as his helicopter rises, he sees the stones laid out that say "GOODBYE".

If anyone can upload that (I will provide the server space), I will be your slave forever.
