I've got a machine running Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2. There's no way to roll back to Service Pack 1 nor can I get a Mac. I've got a Canon GL-1 connected via firewire but Windows will not recognize the camera consistently. It's recognized it twice, and I managed to capture about 9 minutes of video but no audio, and then the whole thing froze. There's 1 gig of RAM in this computer, 70gb of free space on the target hard drive, and it's a 2.80gz Pentium 4, so I'm pretty sure it's a stupid Windows setting thing and not the system resources.
I've tried starting the capture programs (plural, Vegas Video 5 capture program, Windows Movie Maker and Video Dub) before the camera, tried starting the camera first, tried booting up with the camera on and turning it on after bootup. I've got the firewall off. The device manager shows an active IEEE 1394 host controller. I'm running out of ideas. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciate, and if you know of somewhere else I could post to ask, I'll take that too. Thanks much.
