Ergh, I wouldn't really recommend any codec packs as a lot of the packs out there are just randomly thrown together codecs that can and probably will result in conflicts at some point (especially if you are doing video editing).
What I suggest getting instead is CCCP found here (http://www.cccp-project.net). It's the Combined Community Codec Pack which in itself doesn't really carry any codecs so no compatibility problems among codecs. What it does is install an updated and modified version of ffdshow (cause the original version has been discontinued) and an mkv splitter. So what you end up with is really just *one* codec that plays all. So that's what I suggest :)
