Have you tried restoring from the backup file? I have Movie Studio 6.0 but I'm presuming 8.0 works kinda the same. ;) Anyway, you should have a file in the same folder as your original .vf project file that should have the same name but end in .vf.bak. You can either rename it to just .vf and open it in Vegas or you can force it to open by right-clicking it and selecting Vegas as the program to open it with. Then rename it if it opens successfully.

As for why Vegas went screwy looking like that... Hmmm, I'm afraid I don't know about that one. Does Vegas open like that all the time now or just when you're trying to open your project that vanished?
