Somewhere in the vidding LJ is a list that I and Elke pulled together of the cons that accept fan vids (one of the reason I dislike LJ is that this stuff vanishes). There are several cons.
1. Vividcon, Escapade & Bascon feature vids. Some vids are shown at Zebracon, Connexions, Revelcon & Ecleticon. Biggest video show is at Media West
2. It depends - I will send them to cons even if I am not attending, then donate the DVD to the charity auction/raffle. Others will only send if they attend. Quality control at cons vary. So does amount of feedback.
In order to show vids at Media West, you really need to be present (it is doable, but with a lot of exceptions/effort)

4. In the media TV world, it is not competitive-- in that only a few cons actually have voting/judging/give awards. Very different from anime.
But media TV vidding is just as bloodthirsty and jealous as the rest of fandom.
