Help needed - study on remix culture
Studies have recently suggested that the general public is getting more open to configurable practices. But what is the opinion about remix culture seen from the eyes of people who actually remix themselves? This, I was hoping you could help me answer.
I am currently fielding an international survey about video remixing cultures. I hope you will spend 10 minutes answering the survey and, if possible, share it with other video remixers (doesn't have to be vidders). It is strictly anonymous.

Vid Review: Apple Tree by Khameleon808 (Glitch mob fan tribute) [no fandom]
(An attempt at) De-constructing the Apple Tree (in which I overuse brackets)

- 15 minute fan tribute to Glitch mob, using 4 of their tracks and footage from dozens of recent movie trailers.
"It is not intended to tell a story. I didn't edit it that way. I wanted to relate sound to motion. So each and every cut you see was picked for a reason."
From a technical standpoint it's wonderful, the editing is superb and professional, the vid itself must have been a massive undertaking. Some of those clip choice to music decisions - the breaking glass, the spatter of gunfire on the sand, they are seriously amazing - Really it deserves a technical review all on it's own. But doing both technical and thematic at the same time seemed too big a mission, so I've focused only on themes for the purpose of this review.

Race and Representation in Vidding
For the Vividcon vidding convention in August, deepad and I are putting together a combined vidshow/panel called "Race and Representation in Vidding".
The blurb is as follows:
Visual markers of racial, ethnic and cultural identity are inscribed on the bodies vidders use to tell their stories. What are the political and social implications of the choices that vidders make? What narratives of resistance and subversion can be told, and what stereotypes and oppressions get perpetuated? How do the racial and cultural dynamics within fandom affect vidding and its creators? How can we analyse vids through anti-racist, anti-orientalist, post-colonial, and subaltern studies lenses?
From a vidder's technical standpoint, what are the editorial and creative issues you need to take into consideration when vidding characters of color? What implication does music and song choice have? Is there a different approach when you're vidding a character not of your own cultural/ethnic background, and what guidelines or mental reminders have proven useful to you?
We have some ideas of vids that we'd like to show, but we are also looking for suggestions. Do you know of any vids that fit this theme? Also, are there any points that you want to make sure that we touch upon in the panel? All ideas welcome.

Meta: Vidding Survey from a Former Vidder (me)
I think this is okay to post here, since you're all interested in meta about vidding. I'm a former (& maybe future?) vidder ("Lynn C", vidded as the L in JKL) who feels out of touch. I recently got invited to give a talk to computer science students at University of Illinois, and I wanted to talk about vidding, with a focus on tools and collaboration needs. I'll make the combined aggregate results available to all who want them, though.
Because I'm way out of touch, I've written up a rather comprehensive survey. If you take it before April 25, you'll be entered in a drawing for one of three $20 Amazon gift cards (all I can afford!). Also, I will post the aggregate results here (and in any community that lets me post the link and gets responses).

Vidding, the creative process
So, I'm a relative newcomer to vidding and have been vidding for approximately one year. In that time, I've gone through a lot of experimentation and hair-pulling, but feel like I've finally got a relatively good handle on the how-to's, at least technically speaking.
With each new vid, I end up going about the creative and editing aspects a bit differently, ( anyone wanna talk vidding? )

Thinking about Slash Vids, Movie Vids & TV Vids
I've always been really interested in the difference between vids based on tv shows and movie vids. There's been a lot of good meta on this (I wish I could find it to link to but my delicious is failing me at the moment), but basically the gist of things seems to be just that the radically different amount of footage we have to work with from a tv show allows us to do more in a lot of cases (obviously).
So I've been wondering lately about slash vids and whether or not it's one sort of genre that is made more accessible with more footage. I mean I guess if the source is just right (Star Trek XI) then it doesn't matter but the likelyhood of specific dudez having scenes in which they touch or gaze at one another does seem more likely in a TV show with a lot more time to fill. ((I've actually never done a slash vid, which is funny because that's what I'm most interested in fic-wise, but I think I'm just really intimidated by the challenge of it)). ANYWAY, this is getting ramble-ish but the bottom line is that I was looking through my vid folders and couldn't find very many movie vids in my own collection that are slash or femmeslash and I was wondering if others had ones that came immediately to mind.
