Tutorial: Easy compression/encoding in VirtualDubMod (...that works with Vista!)

After getting to the point where I was ready to tear my hair out last night, I figured out a way that worked for me to get my Premiere export (over 2GB uncompressed AVI with WAV sound) into a 26MB DivX AVI with mp3 sound. The tutorials I used to use haven't worked for me since I've been using Windows Vista, but this method worked and was really easy and reasonably fast.

Here's a link to the tutorial on my journal, in hopes that it might help anyone else who loves vidding but hates trying to get it down to a reasonable size for online distribution: The "Just Make the Damn Thing Smaller, Already!" Tutorial

I don't know much (anything, really) about vidding tech, and I'm not sure if this is the right way or even a good way, but it worked for me. Twice, actually--after I did this and finished my current vid last night, I was able to compress another, older Premiere export AVI I'd given up on months ago, when I first switched to Vista. I hope it's helpful!
