Aargh! Problem with Premiere Elements

Okay, so a bunch of my clips are suddenly refusing to show up in the monitor panel; all I get is "media offline" cards, which makes it pretty much impossible to do anything intelligent with these clips.

I checked the help file, but wasn't helped:  the file these clips come has not been moved, so using "locate media" is irrelevant (it's also ghosted out on the menu, just in case I wanted to try).  Also, the clips show up fine in the clip monitor.  Also, not all of them (and, as I mentioned, they're all in the same file) are failing to show up in the monitor panel.

Has anyone else had this happen?  Is there anything I can do about it?  I can't edit this way and it's driving me batty.

what codec are you using for the source?

in the bin right click one of the source files and see if there is any option to reconnect to the media or not... I don't have Elements anymore so I don't remember what the interface is like.

This has happened to me once - and it may sound completely crap, but randomly, I tried moving all the problematic clips up and back down a layer (or down and back up, somewhere else from where they're currently positioned but still parallel on the timeline), and suddenly they all started showing up again. No idea why, but hey, it's worth a go.

Also, then again, I've got premiere pro, which seems to go batty after a while if you try to use any other codec besides dv avi. Elements takes just about any codec, right, so that wouldn't likely be the issue?
