Filling out the YouTube screen
I've recently started editing my vids in Sony Vegas, and I'm really enjoying the new effects and options. However, I'm having a lot of problems with the aspect ratio. What I want to do is have the vid fill out the entire YouTube screen (like so) but it never comes out that way- setting the aspect ratio to PAL widescreen gives me this, and NTCS widescreen looks like this. I know these clips are capable of filling out the screen- when I use Movie Maker, they turn out fine. I also make sure to set the Pan/Crop to 16:9, but it doesn't help. Does anyone know how to set it right?

Firstly, you need to make your project settings match your source. This should fix the black bars issue. Go into your project properties, and at the top right hand corner of the box that pops up there should be a little folder. Click on that, browse to where your source is, select a source file, and Vegas should update your project settings to exactly the same as those of your source, including your preview window.
The other way you can do it is in the pan/crop window, but I can't remember exactly how, I'm sorry! I used that when using mixed aspect ratio source to make it all the same size.

As littleheaven said, it's important that you get the project properties right to match your source material. If you use ripped source than you will have to do some converting, otherwise you pictures get squished because video pixels are square and film pixels aren't.
Best place to go to for expert help is here (http://fpvideos.proboards.com/index.cgi).
They've loads of tutorials and Elvira, the mod over there is extremely helpful (and actually the aspect-ratio queen).

I hope it helps sweetie, if you don't understand you can always look at some great video tutorials that can explain everything very good, just type "HD or HQ Widescreen settings for sony vegas" in youtube, and you will find a lot of great tutorials.
