Mac assistance needed please

My husband has just become a Mac owner, and therefore needs to find new ways of handling his vidding files.

On his PC, he just ripped raw vob files with SmartRipper and used them directly in Vegas. He also ran AnyDVD to region crack the DVD drive, as we have both region 4 and region 1 DVDs.

Question 1 - is there a region crack for Macs?

Question 2 - for anyone here that uses Final Cut or Final Cut Express... what do you use to rip and encode your source?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

MactheRipper is my ripper of choice. It can handle multiple regions okay. It'll just rip you straight VOB. Final Cut can handle that.

I use MactheRipper to rip into a .vob and then MpegStreamclip to clip and convert into a .dv file. My version of FCE (1.x) can only handle .dv files.

VLC will play dvds region free it's better than the DVD player anyway. Mac The Ripper, Media Fork or MPEG Streamclip are good for ripping to all sorts of formats (mp4, avi, vob files).
I use iMovie to vid on my mac, it's basic but it is good.

I use Handbrake to rip discs, and I've found this thread on vidding on a mac (http://sweeney32.livejournal.com/1604.html) incredibly helpful for a lot of the mechanics of mac vidding.
