I don't know if this will help, but I use WMM & create decently small files (about 7-15 MB). I save it to my hardrive at "Video for broadband" either 512 or 340 kbps (or 700 if your version has it). Another good setting is "Best quality for playback on my computer," but obviously that would vary.
